BeingBasics Linen

Linen sits at the heart of BeingBasics. We choose it for its breathability, strength, natural texture, and ability to become more comfortable with time. Every garment is made to feel light, balanced, and suitable for regular wear.

Fabric composition: 100% pure linen

Fabric weight: Approximately 140–150 GSM

Natural qualities: Breathable, moisture-absorbing and durable

Suitable for: Shirts, trousers, tops, dresses and everyday clothing

1. 100% Pure Linen

BeingBasics clothing is made using 100% linen, selected for its natural breathability, strength and distinctive texture. Linen allows air to circulate through the garment, helping the fabric feel comfortable across changing temperatures and longer periods of wear.

Unlike blended fabrics, pure linen retains the natural character of flax fibres. It feels light against the skin, develops a softer hand feel over time and takes on a relaxed appearance through regular use.

The absence of synthetic fabric blending also allows the material to retain the qualities that make linen recognisable, including natural airflow, moisture absorption, subtle texture and a gentle drape.

2. Balanced 140–150 GSM Fabric

Our linen fabric generally falls within the 140–150 GSM range. This balanced weight keeps the material lightweight and breathable without making it feel excessively thin or delicate.

The fabric provides enough structure for shirts, trousers, tops, dresses and everyday wardrobe pieces. It falls naturally while maintaining a refined appearance suitable for work, travel, weekends and relaxed occasions.

A balanced GSM also helps the garment feel practical across different settings. It offers the ease associated with lighter linen while retaining enough substance for regular movement and repeated wear.

3. Naturally Breathable Comfort

Linen absorbs moisture and allows body heat to move through the fabric more efficiently than many synthetic materials. This helps reduce the sticky, heavy or enclosed feeling often experienced during warm weather, travel or extended wear.

Its natural airflow also supports comfort when moving between different environments, including outdoor weather, heated rooms and air-conditioned spaces.

Rather than holding warmth close to the body, linen allows the garment to remain airy and comfortable through changing temperatures and daily activities.

4. Made to Soften with Wear

New linen may initially feel slightly crisp because of the natural fibres and finishing process. This is a normal part of pure linen and does not indicate that the fabric is rough or unsuitable for regular use.

With every wash and wear, the fibres gradually soften. The garment becomes more relaxed and comfortable while continuing to retain the natural strength of linen.

This ageing process is part of the fabric’s character. Instead of quickly appearing worn out, good-quality linen develops a more personal texture and a naturally lived-in finish over time.

5. Natural Texture and Appearance

Small slubs, gentle yarn variations and subtle creasing are normal characteristics of pure linen. These features are not defects. They reflect the natural construction of flax fibres and give each garment its individual appearance.

Pure linen is not designed to remain perfectly smooth throughout the day. Movement naturally creates relaxed creases, which contribute to linen’s understated and effortless style.

Slight differences in texture may also appear between garments. These natural variations are part of what separates pure linen from highly uniform synthetic fabrics.

6. Durable for Regular Use

Linen fibres are naturally strong, making the fabric suitable for frequent wear when cared for correctly. The balanced fabric weight supports everyday movement while helping the garment maintain its overall shape, structure and fall.

Linen can continue to perform well through repeated use because the fibres are known for their strength. The fabric also becomes softer without necessarily losing its natural character.

To protect its longevity, avoid unnecessary high heat, harsh chemicals and aggressive washing cycles. Thoughtful care helps preserve the colour, texture, seams and overall appearance of the garment.

7. Linen Care Guidelines

Linen does not require complicated care, but gentle washing and drying can help preserve its natural strength, shape and texture for longer.

  • Wash linen garments separately or with similar colours.
  • Use cold or lukewarm water.
  • Select a gentle machine-wash cycle.
  • Use a mild liquid detergent.
  • Avoid bleach, harsh stain removers and strong whitening agents.
  • Avoid overloading the washing machine.
  • Give the fabric enough space to move freely.
  • Do not aggressively rub or scrub the material.
  • Do not wring or twist the garment after washing.
  • Air drying is recommended whenever possible.
  • Gently reshape the garment while it is still damp.
  • Dry it on a suitable hanger or flat drying surface.
  • Keep the garment away from strong, prolonged direct sunlight.
  • Avoid repeated tumble drying and excessive heat.
  • Iron linen while it is slightly damp.
  • Use a medium temperature setting.
  • Steam may be used to soften stronger creases.
  • Avoid holding a very hot iron on one area for too long.
  • For a relaxed linen appearance, heavy ironing is not necessary.
  • Store linen in a dry and ventilated space.
  • Make sure garments are fully dry before storing.
  • Fold heavier linen garments carefully.
  • Use suitable hangers for shirts, tops and dresses.
  • Avoid tightly compressing linen for long periods.
